Highlight Window Specialists
Small windows. Big first impressions.
A highlight window is the little decorative window that sits high above a front door or main window — and when it’s leadlight or stained glass, it’s the first thing people admire and the last thing they forget.
Whether it’s a stained glass feature window above the front door of a federation home in Subiaco, or a leadlight highlight throwing colour down the hallway of a farmhouse in York, Ainsley has the craftsmanship and experience to make, restore and install highlight windows that do your home proud.
The little window that lifts the whole house.
Highlight windows (sometimes called transom or fanlight windows) were the jewellery of older Australian homes — small stained glass windows set above doors and windows to catch the morning sun and let the light travel deep into the house.
If you own a character home with an original leadlight feature window, our team is here to help you preserve it, repair it, or replicate it. And if your home never had one? We can design and fit a new highlight window that looks like it’s been there since the place was built.
Caring for the details that make a home.

FAQs
Let’s clear the glass (and shed some light).
What exactly is a highlight window?
A highlight window is a small window placed high on a wall — most often above a front door or a main window. In character homes they’re usually leadlight or stained glass, turning a practical light source into a striking architectural feature.
Can you repair a cracked stained glass highlight window?
You bet. Cracked panes, bowing lead came, flaking putty — most leadlight feature windows can be repaired rather than replaced, and repair is almost always the better path for heritage value. We’ll assess it honestly at the free measure and quote.
Can you make a new stained glass feature window to match my home’s period?
Absolutely. We design and build new leadlight and stained glass highlight windows to suit federation and character homes, matching patterns, colours and timber detailing so the new window looks original.
Will modernising my highlight window hurt its heritage value?
Quite the opposite — our aim is to preserve or enhance it. Upgrades like safety glass and draught seals are fitted discreetly, so your home keeps its authentic charm while gaining comfort and security.
Which areas do you service?
Although we’re based in Toodyay, we travel across the Wheatbelt, Avon Valley and Perth Hills, and make regular runs into Perth’s character suburbs — from Mt Lawley to Fremantle. Give us a crack!
